Acne Keloidalis Nuchae On Black Skin

Acne Keloidalis Nuchae on Black skin presents as bumps on the back of the head and neck. These bumps may be darker than the surrounding skin or pinkish-purplish in color. There may also be hair loss due to scarring.

Studies have shown that acne keloidalis nuchae (AKN) is one of the most common dermatological conditions in persons with skin of color. Acne keloidalis nuchae cause is not really known. However factors that play a role in its development include short haircuts, friction from headgear and inflammation in the hair follicles.

Acne keloidalis nuchae treatment includes the use of prescription steroids to reduce inflammation. Acne Keloidalis Nuchae antibiotics to treat infections include oral doxycycline and topical mupirocin or clindamycin.

Neutrogena T Sal Shampoo is one of the best acne keloidalis nuchae treatment shampoos because it contains 3% salicylic acid and tar which clear the scalp buildup by shedding the dead skin cells. It also prevents new flakes from forming on the scalp and relieves the dry, itchy scalps.

Benzoyl peroxide washes like Panoxyl can also be used to clean the affected areas and reduce infection. This Antiseptic Skin Cleanser is also good for reducing infection because it contains chlorhexidine.

Acne keloidalis nuchae removal creams are retinoids like Differin which can be purchased over-the-counter (OTC) and tretinoin which is a prescription medication. Click on the link to learn more about Acne Keloidalis Nuchae treatment.

Acne keloidalis nuchae does not go away on its own. However not getting short haircuts, avoiding friction from headgear to the head and getting the correct prescription medication from our Doctor can reduce the number and size of the bumps.

Acne keloidalis nuchae laser treatment uses carbon dioxide and 1064-nm Nd:YAG lasers to reduce the bumps on the back of the head.

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra On Black Skin

Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra on Black skin can appear as small, dark swellings of different sizes.

Studies have shown that dermatosis papulosa nigra (DPN) is one of the common dermatological conditions in persons with skin of color. The cause of dermatosis papulosa nigra is not known. However, they are thought to develop due to a combination of genetics, age, exposure to the sun and changes in hormone levels.

Dermatosis papulosa nigra treatment incudes excision (cutting them off), cauterization (burning them off), and cryotherapy (freezing them off with liquid nitrogen). Laser therapy is also used for dermatosis papulosa nigra removal.

Dermatosis papulosa nigra treatment at home is not recommended because it can cause permanent scarring. There is no DPN removal cream that can be safely used at home without side effects like burns to the skin. There is also no proven method to remove DPN from the face naturally.

Dermatosis papulosa nigra prevention involves the use of broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 since sun exposure is one of the factors linked to their development. However, since genes also play a role, using sunscreen may not offer 100% protection.

Dermatosis papulosa nigra vs seborrhoeic keratosis is a common question because they are both benign skin lesions that tend to run in families and increase as the person grows older. DPN are thought to be a type of seborrhoeic keratosis because they have similar features when examined under the microscope.
